  • Evance R9000 turbines extract energy from remnants of Hurricane Katia

Last week saw the remnants of Hurricane Katia hitting southern and central parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England, with the Met Office posting severe weather warnings for many areas.

Many R9000 owners saw outstanding power generation, even with these powerful winds reported.

In high winds the Evance R9000 small wind turbine is designed to keep running, so generating power. Some turbines need to be switched off in these conditions but the R9000’s patented system keeps the turbine running steadily so keeping it generating at its maximum 5kW.

Gusts were recorded in excess of 80mph; an 82mph gust was recorded at Capel Curig in Snowdonia, Glasgow Airport experienced gusts of 72mph and in Edinburgh gusts reached 76mph.

Plenty of wind but was it utilised?  With over 600 R9000 turbines installed across the UK many enjoyed exceptional power generation.

A turbine in North Wales generated nearly three times the daily average since its installation in late 2010 and in this one week a R9000 in the Midlands generated more power than in the whole month of August.  A R9000 in North Yorkshire produced 3½ times more power in this week compared to the same week in August.

“Many more individuals and businesses are waking up to the benefits of small wind. The first half of this year has been very successful for us as we have seen record sales and the interest in our R9000 turbine continues to increase,” commented Kevin Parslow, CEO of Evance Wind Turbines Ltd.
